Marriage is Sad Sometimes
Mom: I’m guessing you’re not going to the Giants parade. Me: No. Mom: When I was living in Philly with your dad, either the Phillies or the Eagles won and it was pretty crazy. Me: Was it when the Phillies won the World Series in 1980? Beat. Mom: Am I talking to my daughter? Hello? Is this Alison Bennett? Me: WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME? Mom: I don’t know! (mocking me) “Was it...

Books I Read: January 2012
I’m doing this again? I read 11 books in January. Two of them were short. Yes, I know that apologizing for two short books is weird and probably connected to my lifelong need to please (one of the reasons I’m posting this list?). SELF-AWARENESS Books after the jump! Recommendations, as always, are starred. I’m Dying Up Here: Heartbreak and High Times in Stand-Up...

100 Books in 2011: The Wrap-Up
I ended up reading 117 books in 2011.  Due to some exciting professional developments, I did very little reading in December, but I still read 55 more books than I did last year.  Feels good. According to my Goodreads ratings, these were my top books of 2011: TOP 10 NON-FICTION Columbine (Cullen) The Psychopath Test (Ronson) The Life and Times of Little Richard (White) Women Television Producers...

Books I Read: November 2011
As part of my 100 Books in 2011 project, I’m wrapping up each month with a list of the books I’ve read. I read 10 books in November, bringing me to a total of 115 books for 2011 so far.  I’m actually reading two books at once right now, which I hate, but whenever I get a book marked “new” from NYPL (or one with an insane hold list) I feel obligated to finish it first. ...

This week, I held a series of auditions for 70+ actors for an upcoming project.  The last woman I saw today was wearing a faux fur coat, turquoise eye shadow, four different kinds of leopard print and my favorite Kenneth Lane lion doorknocker earrings.  She was excellent. I will spend the next 100 years writing vehicles for this woman.
